Candy Apple is her REAL name.

It’s a minute after midnight.

Danny decides to text his good friend Candy.

“Meet me at the west end pancake house for coffee. Be there in 5.”

Danny doesn’t plan to wear his superhero Coffee costume tonight. He isn’t going to drink his special blend of coffee that gives him special powers.

He’s just going to settle for a delicious cup of coffee and conversation with his good friend Candy at the pancake house.

Candy. That isn’t her secret hero identify. At least it isn’t right now. Candy is her real name. It would be a good super heroine name.

Her full name is Candy Michelle Apple. Could you imagine being called Candy Apple all your life? Candy’s mother Shelia had married a Michael Apple. They divorced when Candy was young.

Shelia thought she was going to have a boy. His name was going to be Michael. They’d call him Mike. Candy was the first thing that popped in her head when she had her baby and discovered it was a girl. She later gave her the middle name Michelle. It was the female version of Michael. She always called her Candy.
Of course, she already had a boy’s room painted blue, a blue baby blanket, and boy toys. That was 1987.

Didn’t Shelia know what a name could do to a person? You’ve heard the song “A Boy Named Sue” by Jonny Cash. Names are important. People stereotype names. Who do you think would be more popular? A group of kids with the names like: Chris, Jennifer, Brandon, Brittany, James, and Emily?

What do you stereotype about people with names like Adolph, Dooley, Ulrich, Xavier, Lynch, Iggy and Thaddas?

Of course, this reminds me of a girl named Virginia Beach. How could parents do that to their daughter? They could have given her a different name like Amanda, Ashley, or anything. Anything except Myrtle. Then she would have been Myrtle Beach.

What about Candy and her group of friends? Her three best friends were Lexus, Crystal, and Carmel. You’ll learn more about them later.

It is 2011 now. Candy is 24-years-old now. She goes to the local university. You already know where Danny met her at. The university coffee shop. That was five years ago.

Danny slides on a very nice dark grey Old Navy sweater. He grabs his keys and runs out the door and down the sidewalk to his silver 1998 Pontiac Firebird that still looks new. He puts the key in the engine. The car purrs like a tiger.
Danny puts it in reverse. He swings out of the driveway and shifts it in first as he is still rolling back. He drivers down the street like Bat Man in the Bat Mobile.
He has a mission tonight. He’s going to meet up with his good friend Candy Apple for a cup of coffee at the West End Pancake House.

To be continued. Same Coffee Blog. Next time.
